Crisdel Group to Help Renovate the Toronto Blue Jays Player Development Center
Crisdel Group is honored to be involved with the major renovations to the Toronto Blue Jays baseball facilities in Dunedin, Florida. This $81M project includes upgrades at two locations including the training center off Solon Avenue and the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium off Douglas Avenue, where the major league baseball team has played since 1977.
Gilbane Building Co. will perform the project management and construction; and has chosen Crisdel Group as a key subcontractor at the training facilities, which planners are now calling the Blue Jays Player Development Center (PDC). Crisdel has been tasked with the site-work preparation, excavation, and underground utility improvements to support the new facilities.
Additional renovations at the training center include baseball and agility fields, a new two-story, 100,000-square-foot training center and outbuildings that include batting tunnels, maintenance structures, and an irrigation pump house. The updated complex will house various amenities including a kitchen and dining room, laundry facilities, a yoga studio, classrooms, and more.
Developers started work at the training center in February of this year, but are waiting until the spring season concludes in April to begin renovations at the stadium. Project duration is estimated at one year for each location, just in time for the team’s 2020 spring season.
Plans for the Dunedin Stadium will increase capacity by approximately 3,000. A new boardwalk will connect each side of the stadium around the outfield allowing fans to watch games from different vantage points. Family-focused areas will be added along with an area near the Blue Jays clubhouse where fans can interact with players. These are among many of the changes that will be made to the three-decade-old structure.
This project has been in the planning stages for over five years. To celebrate the long-awaited kick-off, the City of Dunedin and Toronto Blue Jays are holding the Dunedin Stadium Groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at 10 am. All members of the community are welcome to join the ceremony. Crisdel appreciates this opportunity to be part of a historical transition in Major League Baseball.
